WhatsApp Official API update: what changes starting July 2026
Meta has announced a set of important changes to the WhatsApp Business Platform, effective July 1, 2026. If you use WhatsApp as a sales or customer communication channel, it's important to understand what changes, and what it means in practice for your business.
We've broken down the four main points from the official announcement.
1. New message rates in selected markets
Starting July 1, 2026, Meta is updating rates by message category in some specific markets:
- Utility and authentication messages: rate adjustment in 6 markets (Hong Kong, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Qatar and Singapore).
- Marketing messages: rate adjustment in 4 markets (Italy, Spain, Poland and the UK).
Brazil is not included in this round of rate adjustments. The affected markets will be moved to independent price tiers in Meta's tables.
In addition, Meta has signaled that, starting October 1, 2026, at least 9 more markets will be removed from the "Rest of" pricing region, with new, higher international authentication rates. The early notice is meant to give businesses time to prepare.
2. WABA currency migration APIs are now available
Since June 1, 2026, Meta has made new WABA migration APIs available. The goal is to simplify currency changes for existing accounts, the whole process has been reduced to just two API calls.
This matters especially for anyone who needs to migrate WABA accounts from USD to their local currency, as is the case in Brazil.
3. WhatsApp app sign-up, a new lead-capture feature
Meta has rolled out the WhatsApp app sign-up feature globally. With it, businesses can generate a direct link via API and share it on any channel, Facebook, Instagram, email, a website, or WhatsApp Channels, letting the user opt in to receive marketing messages with a single tap, directly inside WhatsApp.
Why this matters:
- Reach audiences your current channels can't reach.
- The opt-in is clear and intuitive, which tends to generate more qualified engagement.
- Free distribution via direct link, placed at the user's highest-intent moments.
- The user stays in control and can stop receiving messages whenever they want.
Note: this feature is not available in Brazil (nor in the EEA, UK, Japan, South Korea, Nigeria, South Africa and Turkey) due to local regulatory and consent requirements. It may be relevant for anyone operating in international markets where the feature is already live.
4. BRL billing for Brazil starting July 1, 2026
This is the most relevant point for anyone operating in the Brazilian market, and it comes with a critical deadline you need to know about.
What changes starting July 2026
Meta is creating a local billing entity: Facebook Serviços Online do Brasil Ltda (Facebook Brazil). Starting in July, clients with a legal entity registered in Brazil will start receiving invoices issued by this entity, in reais.
Facebook Brazil's first invoices will be issued in August 2026.
For new clients: starting July 1, 2026, any new WABA account created by a Brazilian legal entity can only be created in BRL. No exceptions.
For existing clients with USD accounts: existing accounts will keep being billed by Meta Platforms Inc. in USD for now. But starting July 2026, new accounts can only be created in BRL, and there's a deadline to migrate everything.
The deadline you can't ignore
Starting July 1, 2027, Meta will stop delivering messages from WABA accounts that aren't in BRL for clients in Brazil. That means anyone still on USD accounts after that date will have their messages blocked. You have until July 2027 to make sure your entire WABA portfolio is in BRL.
The currency migration APIs were created exactly to make this process simpler, the full process has been reduced to two API calls.
Note: the payment method changes
Facebook Brazil's invoices will be paid exclusively via boleto bancário (Brazilian bank slip), not by credit card, as many are used to with other Meta products.
For late boleto payments, Meta charges a 10% penalty plus 1% interest per month. It's worth putting the due date on your company's financial calendar.
In practice, what are the benefits
- Less currency exposure, message costs stop fluctuating with the dollar.
- Possible tax savings, depending on your company's structure.
- More predictable cost management for anyone using WhatsApp as their main channel.
Eligible clients are companies with a "Sold to" address registered in Brazil that use monthly invoicing with a line of credit. Check your status in Meta's Billing Hub.
What this changes for Claryflow users
If you already use Claryflow for bulk sends, sales recovery automations, or WhatsApp CRM, the switch to BRL billing is a positive change, more cost predictability, less dollar exposure.
As a Meta Tech Provider, we closely track platform updates and are prepared to support infrastructure changes as Meta rolls out new features.
For new clients: any WABA account created from July onward can already be set up in BRL, and Claryflow operates 100% via the Official API, which means you're within the conditions Meta requires to operate with local billing.
Frequently asked questions
I'm a Claryflow client. Do I need to do anything now?
Depends. If your WABA account is already in BRL, no action is needed, you're already under the new model. If your account is still in USD, you don't need to act immediately, but you'll need to migrate before July 2027. If you're unsure which currency your account is set to, contact our support.
What happens if I don't migrate my account from USD to BRL by July 2027?
Meta will stop delivering that account's messages. That means a full interruption of sends, automations, and any WhatsApp communication tied to that WABA. It's the kind of deadline that can't be ignored.
How long does it take to migrate a WABA account from USD to BRL?
With the new currency migration APIs Meta released in June 2026, the process has been simplified to just two API calls. In practice, it's a fast migration, the technical effort is low.
Will message prices go up for Brazil?
Brazil wasn't included in the July 2026 rate adjustment round. What changes is the billing currency (from USD to BRL) and the entity responsible for billing. Meta hasn't announced a price increase for the Brazilian market in this announcement.
Why is payment switching to boleto instead of credit card?
Meta hasn't officially explained the reason. What's documented is that Facebook Brazil's invoices will be paid exclusively via boleto bancário. It's worth noting this is different from the Meta Ads payment model, where credit card remains the standard method. These are charges from different entities and contracts.
How do I know if my company is eligible for BRL billing?
You need a "Sold to" address registered in Brazil and to use the monthly invoicing model with a line of credit on the WhatsApp Business Platform. You can check your status directly in Meta's Billing Hub.
Is WhatsApp app sign-up available to Brazilian businesses?
No. Meta excluded Brazil from this feature due to local regulatory requirements. The feature is available globally, except for Brazil, and the EEA, UK, Japan, South Korea, Nigeria, South Africa and Turkey.
Is Facebook Brazil's information enough to issue an invoice (nota fiscal) or do accounting integration?
The entity's details are: Facebook Serviços Online do Brasil Ltda, CNPJ 13.347.016/0001-17, address at Av. Brigadeiro Faria Lima, 3732, São Paulo. Meta also provides additional documents for accounting integration in the Help Center, under Latin America > Brazil.
Not using the WhatsApp Official API yet?
Claryflow is one of the few Brazilian SaaS platforms operating as a Meta Tech Provider, meaning direct access to Meta's official infrastructure for bulk sends, automations, and WhatsApp CRM.
